Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice (Equimundo) works to engage men and boys as allies in gender equality, promote healthy manhood, and prevent violence. Grounded in feminist praxis and focused on achieving impact through partnership and collaboration, Equimundo's mission is to promote care by and for men and boys, reduce violence and inequity, and in doing so achieve well-being for all. Our vision is a safe, just and caring world, defined as: - Safe: Where everyone lives free from violence. - Just: Where inequities are prevented, mitigated and redressed. - Caring: Where everyone is connected, valued, and invested in supporting one another. To achieve our mission, we leverage three interconnected approaches throughout our work: 1. Research: Equimundo works to establish a foundational evidence base for the field, inform program design and evaluation, and guide advocacy efforts. 2. Programs: Equimundo strengthens the capacity of partners to co-design and implement impactful and gender-transformative program approaches. In turn, learnings from its programmatic work inform research and advocacy priorities. 3. Advocacy: Equimundo strives to move policy and people, as well as their perceptions and practices, amplifying the reach of its research and the impact of programs. Equimundo draws on these core approaches to focus on three agendas: Caring Men, Healthier Boyhoods, and Allyship and Connectedness. As detailed below, unrestricted support from L'Oreal will enable us to continue our impactful work and achieve the goals set out in our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. CARING MEN Traditional gender roles often limit men's participation in caregiving. In this area, we continue building the evidence around the state of care equity globally via the State of the World's Fathers series and advancing our advocacy agenda through country-specific opportunities centered around the MenCare Global campaign. Simultaneously, we continue to deepen our learning around what it takes to successfully bring to scale evidence-based gender transformative parenting interventions with couples. Supported by Equimundo's research, programs, and advocacy, by 2028 we aim to: - Through the MenCare campaign, increase attention and commitment to the urgency and value of care equity and men's role as caregivers globally - including by organizing the Global Fatherhood Summit in 2026 targeting policy-makers and other key decision-makers and creating a global agenda for men's caregiving. - Scale evidence-based father and parent training approaches, including working through public institutions in Colombia and Rwanda. - Elevate the latest evidence on pathways to men's engagement as equitable caregivers through the production of actionable research such as State of the World's Fathers 2026. HEALTHIER BOYHOODS Understanding and addressing how inequitable and restrictive ideas about gender affect individuals from a young age is crucial to achieving gender equality. In this thematic area, we continue building on the momentum around the Global Boyhood Initiative (GBI), launched by Equimundo in 2020 and now active with partners across 5 continents. At the same time, our research around gender socialization continues with regional studies and thematic reports, as well as the ongoing preparation of the first-ever State of the World's Boys (planned for 2026). Finally, we are scaling up our evidence-based programs, currently ongoing in educational settings as diverse as the UK and Mexico. Supported by Equimundo's research, programs, and advocacy, by 2028 we aim to: - Shift global narratives on boyhood, working with creators, moderators, and audiences themselves to increase the quality and quantity of positive portrayals of masculinity in online and traditional media, with a strategic emphasis in the US. - Scale evidence-based programs for parents, teachers and children and youth in the UK, Mexico, Bolivia, Malawi, the US and elsewhere. - Strengthen research on modern boyhood, including by launching the first-ever State of the World's Boys to encourage decision-makers in fostering healthy, connected, violence-free boyhood for the benefit of all. CONNECTEDNESS AND ALLYSHIP Research in a number of settings suggest that support for gender equality has stalled or is decreasing among boys and men. Research suggests that this may be driven by the resurgence of populist, right-wing governments and a cultural backlash to feminist gains, and fueled by the profound role of digital technologies where misinformation and misogynistic viewpoints are easily shared. Work in this thematic area aims to foster healthy, social interactions and cultivate inclusive allies in the spaces we share. Supported by Equimundo's research, programs, and advocacy, by 2028 we aim to: - Pilot and evaluate hybrid and virtual approaches to engage young men online to reduce violence, build support for healthy masculinity and build off ramps to offline interaction - starting with the Innovation Lab for Connected Online Masculinity in the US. - Engage workplaces on how to foster gender equality and caring masculinity through workplace male allyship programs, creating safe and supportive environments.
