Zamukulungisa Foundation is a community-rooted non-profit (NPC 2022/383848/08; NPO 333-565-NPO; B-BBEE Level 1) working across 12+ rural villages of King Mhlontlo Local Municipality (Tsolo and Qumbu areas), O.R. Tambo District — one of South Africa's most disadvantaged regions, where 62.3% of children live in poverty. We deliver our mission through four integrated pillars: (1) Education Access — the Hug a Child Drive provides complete school uniforms to vulnerable learners, removing the uniform-cost barrier behind 10% of school dropouts, while Knowledge on Wheels brings mobile learning resources to rural schools; (2) Gender Equity & Youth Empowerment — Keep a Girl Safe delivers menstrual health support and safety education, and Rural Girls Rise builds leadership and life skills for adolescent girls; (3) Community Economic Development — local procurement, a women's sewing cooperative and food-security projects turn every rand of aid into local economic activity; (4) Health & Dignity — safety workshops, dignity packs and referral pathways that restore dignity to every beneficiary. Our approach is evidence-based and community-led: needs are identified with ward committees and traditional leaders; beneficiaries are verified through home visits and objective vulnerability scoring; goods are procured from township businesses; and distribution happens at community celebrations — dignity shared, not handouts given. Every programme is monitored term-by-term, evaluated annually, and reported transparently to funders and communities, with administration held below 7% of spend. Our impact to date: in 2025 the Hug a Child Drive reached 78 children, lifting school attendance from 45% to 88% and cutting cold-related absences by 25%, with 73% of funds flowing directly to beneficiaries and 100% of uniforms procured locally. With partners including Ford Motor Company South Africa and GlobalGiving, we are scaling to 200 children in 2026. Our 2030 vision: a King Mhlontlo where every child learns in dignity, every woman has a pathway to economic independence, and community-owned enterprises sustain half of all programming — because we measure success not by what we give, but by what communities no longer need us for.
Each of GlobalGiving’s nonprofit partners is required to send quarterly donor reports detailing the impact of their work. Here are some of their recent updates:
