Feb 25, 2019   How did greenlight for girls start 2019? With a BIG chemical reaction combining hydrogen peroxide with potassium iodide as a reagent, of course!! And with a BIG thank you to all of our generous supporters who have helped us gear up to inspire even more girls in science & technology this year! Kicking off the new year, we had the chance to showcase explosive fun in chemistry with the famous Elephant’s Toothpaste experiment to 80 kids aged 5-12 at the British Junior Academy of Brussels.... What question you wouldn't ask anybody?

Jan 7, 2019   This was the opening question for one of the last lessons of the year. It was made to spark intrigue on how Chat Bots work and to program them- which eventually happened, but most interesting was the conversation on what the kids don’t dare to ask anyone. The conversation included feminism and gender based violence and great conclusions that the whole group where able to make with our facilitators help and guidance.    As an extra activity kids watched the movie.... 3,000+ Girls Inventing & Innovating in STEM Across 6 Countries

Nov 27, 2018   “Excuse me, but we need these at our school,” said a little girl in the 6th grade matter-of-factly to her principal, pointing to the snap circuits that were adorning the gym floor at our g4g Day @Jackson Heights in New York City. The principal, thrilled to be passing through our event but caught in-between meetings, answered her quickly. “That would be nice for us to have, I agree,” and then expertly dodged a flying saucer that the group had finally engineered to launch.... What does VR and T-shirt design have in common?

Oct 12, 2018   At first nothing, except that both of them are activities that the kids from the coding lab have been working on during the past months.  You might think that none of this activites are really related to coding, however they tend to be essential to boost the design thinking mindset and code considering solving problems.    You might consider that experiencing virtual reality goggles would be the most fun thing to do for a group of techies fan- but reality, interacting with team.... Game Design & Lightning Super Heroes

Jul 17, 2018   As the year unfolds, and with participants loving tech challenges, they created a game that testes participants speed using buttons out of makey- makey (an electronic invention tool and toy that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs). This required to invent the game, design the hardware and also write the code. An afternoon filled with creativity and fun.   We also received the visit of Denise, a local artist who showed her “lightning superheroes” -.... Read more

1150 More Girls Rocketing Into STEM!

May 29, 2018   At what age did you know you wanted to be a scientist? Have you ever failed at something and what did you learn from it? These were some of the questions girls posed to a diverse group of STEM professionals on stage in front of an audience of 350 people in Cincinnati a few weeks ago. We love when our greenlight girls have the chance to interact with role model professionals in such a personal way, ask them questions to understand their stories, and feel inspired. Coding and Company Visit

Nov 2, 2017   During the last month the kids where coding with an ideal user in mind. The purpose was that their code should help someone solve a problem they had. With that in mind they worked with different ideas and made a special visit to a software company. End of the year Street Party

Jan 3, 2017   As the year came to an end and summer arrived in Rosario, we thought it would be nice to celebrate with a street party, so, we did. We talked with our neighbours and for a couple of hours we closed our street for cars and filled it with colour, dance and people.  During the party, every program had their moment, where they received a diploma and showed off what they had been doing during the year. When it came to our coders, they showed a brillant app they developed to help the staff.... Read more

Coding into a new horizon

Apr 20, 2016   2016 Started with many exciting plans as the kids signed in for a new opportunity to start coding their future. We had some classes already and before starting with the basics by using scratch, the first thing was to understand how we talk to computers. We had some funny games and lots of laughter for this. For the following months we plan to further develop technical skills and for that some “Secret Missions” where assigned for each kid to explore some of the functions of the.... Read more

2015 Closing Ceremony - 2016 Plans

Jan 29, 2016   2015 was an amazing and challenging year. It was our first time teaching kids to code using what our friends from Harvard University taught us during their visit in 2014. It was a great experience where participants learnt the basis of coding and ended up coding their own simple website while also gaining countless of other life skills that will remain with them as they grow up. We have more exiting ideas for the 2016 version of the Coding program based on our learnings and insights from.... Read more

Going wild online

Oct 30, 2015   Overcoming challenges is what makes us strong, after a first successful stage with scratch (coding platform) and the basics of coding through games, a new milestone was set after participants faced a more “real” coding platform and learnt how to code using Processing.JS. Though we had our initial doubts on how they would react with this new platform, we were indeed surprised on their reactions, as they felt as more “professional” programmers and they’ve created.... Code your future

May 11, 2015   As we told you in our previous reports, during the last time of 2014 we were focused on planning the coding program that we developed thanks to the knowledge shared by our friends at Harvard University and the Digital Literacy Program. Coding is a completely new thing for our kids, so the first thing they needed to understand that coding is just another way of communicating, in this case, communicating with a computer so that it can follow our instructions. After going through some dynamics, to.... Read more

Aug 12, 2011   It's winter in Argentina.
