Frequently Asked Questions

Here are our short answers to your most frequently asked questions about the July Bonus Day. For more information please refer to the campaign Terms + Conditions and resource center.

1. Will my project be automatically included? Eligible projects have been automatically included in this campaign! Check the leaderboard to find your project. Also your GlobalGiving dashboard should now display a July Bonus Day module to indicate your organization is eligible and that all your active projects have been included.
2. What if a donor gives under $100 or over $1,000? This campaign is designed to help you cultivate major donors. As such, only gifts of $100 and greater will be matched while funds remain. Consider the September Little by Little Campaign for donations under $100.
3. What is the most matching any one organization can receive? Great question! We want as many organizations as possible to benefit from this bonus day, so organizations will be capped at $3,000 in matching. If your organization hits that cap, remember there are $30,000 in bonus prizes to compete for. Check out the 2019 leaderboard to see what this community accomplished last year.
4. Can my donor send a check? Unfortunately, due to the time sensitivity of the day, limited matching funds, and all GlobalGiving staff working remotely, offline donations are not eligible. See a complete list of eligible and ineligible donation methods in the campaign Terms + Conditions.
5. What happens if my donor gives too early or after funds run out? Please note that all donations are final. GlobalGiving cannot change the time, date, or status of a donation after it is processed for any reason. We encourage you to get donations in early because matching funds will likely run out before the end of the day.
6. Can I schedule a project appeal to go out at the start? What a super idea! The deadline to post a project appeal in time for bonus day was last Friday. While we do our best to approve late submissions, we can’t make any guarantees. If you need to submit yours asap, borrow language from this template and consider segmenting your appeal to go to your $100+ donors - this way you avoid donor fatigue with your lower-level supporters!
7. How long will matching funds last?? This is the million dollar question! This is the second time GlobalGiving has implemented this matching structure and, while we can make an educated guess, we simply cannot predict the future. How long the funds last is ultimately up to you all and how well you’ve mobilized for this campaign! Last year, $250,000 in funds lasted three hours and ran out at 12:05 p.m. ET. This year we have the same amount in matching funds, but the world has changed. The results of this campaign will serve as an indicator of how major donors are reacting to the new COVID-19 reality. We are in this together and we will send you an email alert when funds run out. After the campaign we will send a short survey to capture your thoughts on the day and invite you all to participate in a group debrief session to unpack all the learnings with your peers.
8. What is ‘major gift fundraising’ and where can I learn more? Major gifts are some of the largest donations your organization receives. You can learn more in the July Bonus Day resource center!
