A child born with cleft palate misses out on more than a brilliant smile. They miss out on a life free of financial, emotional, and physical burdens related to this disability. Our goal for "Give A New Smile to 20 Children in Uraba" is to sponsor the entire treatment process for the 20 children ages 1 to 5 in Uraba suffering from cleft palate. Your donation helps to provide free reconstructive surgeries, speech therapy, and emotional counseling to support these children and their families.
About 277 children in Uraba were born with cleft lip and cleft palate, conditions with life-altering physical and emotional consequences. Difficulty eating, cavities, malformed teeth, frequent ear infections, hearing loss, and speech impediments are worsened by rejection and discrimination. These conditions can take an emotional and financial toll on families. In Uraba, parents can rarely afford the multiple, sometimes up to 4, surgeries children with cleft lip and cleft palate may need.
"Give a New Smile to 20 Children in Uraba" removes this burden entirely from the families of the 20 children ages 1 to 5 born with cleft palate in the Uraba region of Colombia. The program is able to sponsor the entire reconstruction process, including surgery as well as post-surgery speech therapy, emotional counseling, and year long rehabilitation. The program also allows children's families to be included in the recovery process, bringing them together and preparing them for the future.
Through "Give A New Smile to 20 Children in Uraba," these families will no longer face condition-related hospital bills, discrimination, or emotional distress. Since children get treatment at a young age, they have the opportunity to grow up without worries of speech impediments, bullying, or other burdens of cleft palate. Through speech therapy and a new smile, they will be able to interact with confidence. By donating, you're giving children more than new smiles-you're giving them new futures.
