FAQs

Q: How were the projects selected?

A: We want to reinforce the community commitment of the City family of Clubs across the globe and have identified projects that can support the communities in which City Football Group Limited’s (CFG) Clubs are situated worldwide. Projects were selected by our expert grant making team in consultation with local community staff. All projects are run by registered charities which have undergone robust due diligence to ensure they are suitable funding recipients and deliver the maximum impact for young people and their families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Q: How will you measure the impact of the projects?

A: All projects will submit regular impact reports to our grant management team, who will also engage in regular communication with funded charity partners to continually assess impact.

Q: How will CFG match my donation?

A: CFG has pledged to match cash donations from individual fans to each project on a 1:1 basis (namely, in the same currency in which the donation was made, so a USD $1 donation would be matched by CFG contributing an amount equal to USD $1, subject to the individual project and campaign limits set out below). This is known as ‘matchfunding’.

Q: How much will CFG contribute to the projects globally?

A: CFG will provide matchfunding up to a maximum of £55,555* against donations received for a single specific project, capped at a maximum of £500,000* across all nine projects. CFG is the parent company of the nine clubs within the group and is based in England.

Q: How will CFG support each project individually?

A: Each charity partner’s project will be eligible to receive up to a maximum of £55,555* from CFG, which will match the amounts raised from fan donations across its crowd funding platforms and related activities from 16 June to 30 September 2020 inclusive. CFG match funding will be provided against donations made on or received via (i) GlobalGiving pages, (ii) CFG approved crowdfunding pages (in China only) and (iii) any other CFG fundraising activities for these projects at CFG’s discretion, subject to the individual project and campaign limits set out above.

Q: What if I donate in a currency other than GBP pounds sterling?

A: The CFG match funding will be managed by Global Giving and made at the prevailing GBP pounds sterling currency exchange rate applicable to your donation in accordance with Global Giving’s currency exchange rate policies which can be found here. The applicable rate will be calculated as at 1 October 2020 once the crowd fund campaign ends.

Q: When can I donate?

A: The crowd fund campaign will be live from 16 June until 30 September 2020 inclusive.

Q: When does CFG make its contribution?

A: CFG matchfunding will be made to GlobalGiving UK once all donations across all platforms have been reconciled by GlobalGiving at the end of the campaign. This will be calculated on 1 October 2020. Global Giving will disburse the match funding as set out in their disbursement policies.

Q: When will the funded projects be delivered in each territory by CFG’s charity partners?

A: All projects will commence delivery on receipt of funds. Each project will last for a minimum of 6 months.

Q: Where is the CFG matchfunding investment coming from?

A: A total of up to £500,000* has been allocated to this charitable fundraising initiative by CFG, subject to the individual project and campaign limits set out above.

Q: How will my data be used?

A: CFG has appointed GlobalGiving UK (registered charity no. 1122823) and its affiliates (GlobalGiving) to receive and co-ordinate the distribution of all fans’ donations and CFG matchfunding to CFG’s charity partners globally. GlobalGiving will act as the data controller in relation to your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable local legislation. Your personal data will not be passed by GlobalGiving to CFG. For further information on the data which GlobalGiving will require from you and how this will be used, please refer to GlobalGiving’s privacy policy which can be found here.

Q: Do the projects get any support beyond my donation and CFG’s matchfunding?

A: Yes, Cityzens Giving provides a unique profiling opportunity allowing the projects to raise awareness with fans around the world. In addition some projects will benefit from additional Club support in the relevant territory over time, including in kind giving and volunteering, each of which will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Q: I remember Cityzens Giving from last year – this feels different?

A: Yes, it is. This is a specially adapted campaign to respond to the current coronavirus pandemic. For the first time, we are matching fans’ generous donations to projects in the nine CFG club territories and all projects have a singular focus on youth recovery – promoting health, education and inclusion.

Q: What happens to projects from last year’s Cityzens Giving campaign that aren’t featured this year?

A: These projects continue to receive support from CFG to guarantee their long term sustainability. This includes funding, community football training for young leaders and knowledge sharing opportunities with other supported projects.

Q: Will all of the money which I donate go towards the project?

A: All donations made are processed by GlobalGiving for disbursement to the projects. Please note GlobalGiving deducts a fee in order to process the payment. More information on GlobalGiving’s applicable fees can be found here. GlobalGiving’s Terms & Conditions can be found here.

Q: Will I be able to get tax relief on my donation?

A: This will depend, amongst other things, on your personal circumstances, tax status, choice of currency and country of residence. You should seek independent tax advice if you wish to consider applying for this.
