Dear friends of DAKTARI,
Christmas season has ended and we are so grateful for your participation at this important time of the year. Thanks to your precious support, we raised a tremendis $2500!! This is such wonderful news for DAKTARI and the children. This money raised covers the cost of 16 local underprivileged children to attend 5 days of environmental lessons at DAKTARI. This an amazing Christmas gift and a wonderful start for 2015!
The other day I heard a very interesting discussion between a curious student and a vounteer, that I would like to share with you.
- Precious, 13: “What do they do, the other volunteers in the office?”
- Celine, the volunteer: “They find people like me, from everywhere in the world, to join DAKTARI and teach you and your friends about environment. They also try to find money to sponsor your stay here.”
- Precious: “Why do they need to find money?
- Celine: “Because when you stay 5 days at DAKTARI it costs lots of money”
- Precious: “Why?”
- Celine: “Because we buy food for you, and we use the car to transport you so we need to buy petrol, because the light that you use costs money and also the lessons we print for you. Nothing is free you know, that is why you need to work hard and find a job. Do you understand?”
- Precious: “Yes but… Who gives that money?”
- Celine: “ Well, this is very kind people who wants to help you and other children like you to have a better education and so a better life, so they give money. Thanks to them you are here today.”
- Precious: “These people are fantastic! Can you tell them thank you from me? …”
So today, again, from all the children, the animals and DAKTARI, I am telling you a huge and warm thank you for your support!
Last but not Least: We met some of the previous DAKTARI kids at the Eco-clubs that we give in the local school. Last lesson, 30 students came to learn more and to follow up on the environmental lessons! We are very proud of their motivation! Keep going like that!
NOTE: Our project “sponsor a child - All we need is LOVE” stays open! Please speak to your friends and family about our mission and projects and encourage them to join us and help a child like Precious!
