Summary

Search for Common Ground will promote inter-ethnic common values by producing The Holy Mother, a film about a monastery in Macedonia that has embraced Christians and Muslims throughout centuries.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

There is a lack of mutual understanding and respect between ethnically segregated communities in Macedonia. The documentary will capture a real life situation –example of a peaceful co-existence– and spread it throughout the country. The broadcast will be viewed by ethnic Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish and Roma communities in Macedonia. These primary beneficiaries will identify themselves with situations in the film while learning about pro-social behavior and inter-ethnic understanding.

How will this project solve this problem?

Search for Common Ground and Lokomotiva Center, a local partner, will produce the documentary film The Holy Mother. The film will be broadcast by local TV stations in Macedonia and used in seminars for discussions on inter-ethnic understanding.

Potential Long Term Impact

The documentary will promote co-existence in multi-ethnic communities, presenting the differences in cultural and ethnical background as something positive and mutually fertile.
