Our 2010 goal is to empower 50,000 young students across China, enlisting help from 500 university student volunteers by training them to deliver the GECKO program to high schools themselves.
With the largest population in the world and an astounding rate of industrial and economic growth, the health of the environment in China is becoming an increasingly grave concern. However, due to the education level and economic status of many of the students we reach out to, environmental awareness has not yet been integrated into their mainstream values. Our program will directly impact 50,000 students, challenging them to become environmental ambassadors to their communities.
Our materials were developed by our own environmental experts. In addition to visiting schools ourselves, we also enlist help from university student volunteers, providing them with the tools and training they need to deliver our program themselves.
We educate future leaders, engineers, designers, diplomats, and writers, inspiring them to become environmental ambassadors to their communities. They will be the ones leading and making the changes we need to develop a sustainable system in China.
There is so little trash on campus! I often see students and teachers bend to pick it up. Seeing this, I am so happy! It's because of you that so many people have joined in protecting our environment!
