This project focuses on the protection of local biodiversity along the Niger River, through the elimination of the water hyacinth - an invasive plant species. The project centres on recycling of plant material and on using the water hyacinth as an organic resource and local development driver for the inhabitants of three villages.

How will this project solve this problem?

Water hyacinth composting; Sustainable manufacturing of handicraft and artisanal products; Sustainable manufacturing of briquets for home heating; Sustainable manufacturing of artisanal paper and paper products

Potential Long Term Impact

To empower the inhabitants to influence and actively participate in the development and future of their environment, this approach incorporates various important elements like food safety, health, education, culture and the economy.
