Challenge

This project will improve the quality of life for Yonni, an 11 year-old child who lost both of his legs, providing him with independence and mobility. At 5 months old, a devastating fire changed his life forever, leaving him with severe burns on his head, limbs, and torso. Despite the physical obstacles, Yonni continues to play with his friends, inspiring us all with his resilience and determination. His love for soccer is his greatest passion.

Solution

United for Colombia will provide the left leg prosthesis and comprehensive rehabilitation treatment required by 11-year-old Yonni. He has undergone numerous surgeries and treatments in Bogota and the United States to rebuild his life after the fire where he lost his right leg. Sadly, in December 2023, his left leg had to be amputated, and currently, he is in physical therapy in preparation for receiving his new prosthesis.

Long-Term Impact

By providing specialized medical support and orthopedic rehabilitation, Colombian amputees will enjoy a better quality of life, as well as their families and caretakers who will be relieved. They will regain their health and independence, securing a brighter future for themselves.
