The Brooklyn, NY chapter of the Teen Grantmaking Initiative (TGI) was able to engage 9 youth in its first year, and granted $3,000 to three youth-serving groups: the New York Student Union, CAIR-NY, and the New York State Youth Leadership Council.
TGI was part of the Arab American Association of New York's (AAANY) spring internship program with youth coming from local high schools. The youth are also involved in AAANY's advocacy program.
The TGI program made an impact on the youth because they had different opportunities to engage with the community including conducting surveys with their classmates and fundraising via bake sales in the community and major donor asks. The TGI experience was valuable for the youth - they got an understanding of philanthropy and boosted their self confidence. It really helps to boost their self esteem and confidence if you give the youth challenges that they thought would never be capable of doing.
Thanks so much for supporting TGI-NY!
