The Teen Grantmaking Project (TGI) - NY, hosted by the Arab American Association of New York, has identified the needs of youth in Brooklyn, NY through a needs assessment survey, and will make grants to organizations addressing those needs locally. TGI-NY is youth-led, with youth identifying problems in their community, and then addressing those problems through grantmaking.
Youth are best suited to identify the challenges facing youth in their community. Through TGI-NY high school students in Brooklyn, NY developed and conducted a needs assessment of other youth in Brooklyn, NY. Based on the results of the needs assessment, the TGI-NY youth members will develop a Request for Proposals, review grant applications, and make grants to organizations empowering youth to address the issues identified in the needs assessment.
TGI-NY empowers youth to solve problems facing their community. By conducting a competitive grantmaking process, TGI-NY members will give funds to organizations engaged in the most impactful work addressing those issues. In addition, youth are not only best suited to identify needs in their community, but they are also best suited to address those needs. TGI-NY will make grants to other youth-led organizations, youth supporting youth, leaders today in changing their communities.
TGI-NY empowers its youth members to understand the issues impacting their community and provides them with the tools to make a real impact on those issues. The 9 TGI-NY members will develop valuable leadership skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives, shaping them into current leaders and problem solvers. Organizations receiving a grant from TGI-NY are working with youth in Brooklyn. Those youth will also enhance their community leadership skills through the grant.
