Going Solo - A Safety Guide For Women Travelers

Summary

Traveling alone to a foreign country can be an exciting, character building, rewarding life experience. An on-going debate rages about the safety, health risks and security of an American woman venturing solo into the world and navigating foreign cities. While thousands of American woman travel overseas solo annually, headline news of rapes and murders deter many more from embarking on solo journeys. We will produce a free, downloadable safety guide for solo travelers heading overseas.

Challenge

The world has changed since the Hippie Trail backpacking days of the 1960's and 1970, when Americans journeyed through Europe and Asia. Traveling overseas solo was a rite of passage. Today, many more dangers exist which deter young Americans from traveling solo to foreign countries. We want to create a free, downloadable travel guide for American women before they travel overseas.

Solution

More young American women will be willing to have the character building, amazing live experience of traveling solo to foreign countries by being prepared and knowing resources available in their destination countries.

Long-Term Impact

According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 65 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be 39,000 Americans raped in foreign countries annually. From the sexual assault victims that have contacted us in various foreign countries, they are extremely grateful for our help and assistance when no one else would or could provide the services we provide to them.
