Arcadia Lights Up the Future for Kigali Children

You are receiving this Project Report since you supported our micro-project with Arcadia to Light up the Future for Rwandan Street Children on Global Giving.  This is the last, concluding report for this project.  

Thank you so much for helping Arcadia and MindLeaps raise funds to begin a lighting design program for street children in Rwanda. The money you raised here, plus other funds raised in cash, has helped us take a big step forward in getting donated theatrical lighting equipment to Rwanda. Because of this, we are going to start a lighting design program which will:

• Give street youth employable skills in a growing field when they leave our program
• Teach our students basic math and science skills, which will prepare them to further their education

We have no doubt that our current students, who are thriving in our dance and IT programs, will greatly benefit by lighting design training. A visit with an expert lighting designer to our program in 2013 (see pictures) was a major success with our students then and we are excited to be soon adding lighting design classes into our regular curriculum.

NEXT STEPS

We are moving forward with this project and are currently:

• Finalizing the donations of theatrical lighting equipment from Arcadia
• Working with a new partner from Canada to carry out the logistics of shipping the equipment
• Reviewing MindLeaps’ curriculum to incorporate lighting design courses into our regular programs.
