As a senior class service project, the Arcadia University Theater Arts Class of 2015 (in partnership with MindLeaps) is spearheading a drive to collect theatrical lighting equipment to start a lighting design training program in Kigali, Rwanda, for street children. Funds donated here will help defray the costs of transporting the equipment we collect from Arcadia University to MindLeaps' site in Kigali. MindLeaps is the organization formerly known as RDDC: Rebecca Davis Dance Company.
As a senior class service project, the Arcadia University Theater Arts Class of 2015 is spearheading a drive to collect theatrical lighting equipment to start a lighting design training program in Kigali, Rwanda, for street children. The program will be offered in partnership with MindLeaps' (formerly RDDC) existing efforts providing street children chances to learn workforce skills, go to school and permanently leave their lives on the street.
Establishing a training program in lighting will give street children a marketable real-world skill that can lead to employment opportunities in the future. The training will also serve as an introduction to science and math to benefit those who will continue on with their education. Your donation will help offset the considerable costs and import duties associated with transporting the necessary lighting equipment from Arcadia University to Kigali.
This project works in tandem with MindLeaps' other programs to solve the problem of re-integration. Street children need to receive tangible skills and education to successfully become members of society rather than beggars on the street. The MindLeaps' Program is a full solution to this problem and has a proven track record of success in Rwanda. Over time, this model can be adopted by other NGOs in more countries in order to tackle the issue of street children on a global scale.
