Our leguaan, Lazarus needs a specific diet to survive. We feed him chicken, rodents and eggs, but we are keen to increase his intake of invertebrates. He is asking for $300 towards his food and care for the year.
Lazarus was found badly injured after being attacked by an animal. He was brought to Daktari by the people who found him and now we are taking care of him. Leguaans (or Rock Monitors) sometimes pretend to be dead when they are being attacked, laying still and limp with their eyes wide open. This was the case with Lazarus who got his name as he came 'back from the dead'.
We provide Lazarus with food and care. He has recovered well from his ordeal, but we are not sure that he will ever be strong enough for release. With your help, we hope to offer Lazarus a 'retirement home' where he will be safe and cared for.
We recently built Lazarus a new enclosure where he will be safe and comfortable in his old age. With your support, we will feed and care for him for as long as he needs our help. As we are a bush school as well as a wildlife orphanage, Lazarus is an excellent teaching medium for the children as he is one of only three reptiles that we have here. He is a fascinating, intelligent creature that we feel privileged to care for.
