Summary
Education in Yoga Therapy Training is beneficial for many reasons including recognizing how trauma manifests itself in the body & behavior & how to address survivors' scars w/ sensitivity & awareness.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Southeast Asia, sex trafficking impacts the lives of over a 150,000 women and children, who are primarily exploited through the commercial sex trade. Many girl’s lives are decimated through the horror of being sexually, physically, and emotionally abused and they have no hope for a future. There is a dire need for quality aftercare services that can restore hope to these children.
How will this project solve this problem?
Simply, by training these individuals, themselves survivors, in yoga therapy we are giving them skills needed to help heal others, give them increased confidence in themselves, and help them develop a viable vocation.
Potential Long Term Impact
Yoga is a powerful means of addressing issues related to trauma. By equipping former victims as teachers, we are placing skilled practitioners in the field of trauma therapy, as well as, giving girls a dignified and meaningful career.
Project Message
"Yoga has been one of the most successful elements of our therapy program at Transitions Global. It has transformed the lives of the girls and inspired them to see similar healing in others."
