Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp is a life-changing, week-long, sleepaway activism summer camp for youth ages 12-17 who want to make a difference in the world. We train and support teens in taking action, where they might otherwise give up or never try for lack of confidence, encouragement or skills. Our world desperately needs more bold leaders for social change to build happier, more compassionate and sustainable communities. YEA is training those leaders and building that world.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
There are SO many problems facing our world today--climate change, hunger, poverty, pollution, bullying, animal cruelty, and unfortunately many more. As a society, most of us are not empowered to try to tackle these issues--most people don't know what to do to help or have the training, confidence, and support to get started. And that's the adults! Most teens and children feel a strong drive to help others and solve these problems but don't have the support to do so. That's where we come in.
How will this project solve this problem?
YEA Camp has a unique goal: create more effective activists in the world to cause social change. Through engaging workshops, we equip our campers with knowledge about important issues, skills (such as fundraising & running a school club), confidence, and community. With this training, they become the change-makers our world desperately needs. We serve a diverse population and grant scholarships to half of our campers. With funding, we can vastly increase our reach while offering scholarships.
Potential Long Term Impact
Our 300+ graduates self-identify as activists after leaving camp, and get active making a difference on a social issue of their choice. Each one of them will make a tremendous difference in their lifetime. Whether through starting a school club, community project, speaking up against bullying, or getting others to recycle, there are ripple effects in their community. YEA wants to reach thousands of teens and communities through our campers taking effective action on what matters most to them
