Volunteers who are homeless will be trained in House and Garden maintenance work and encouraged to take over, run and manage the project as paid co-operative members, then help expand the enterprise.
People who are homeless face many barriers when trying to rebuild their lives. The lack of a work record and low self-esteem can contribute towards keeping people on, or returning to, the streets. Additionally, mainstream work placement providers do not understand the multiple issues marginalised groups of people face. The opportunity to learn new skills, brush up old ones and gain experience can act as a catalyst towards employment, positive choices and a new life.
The project will provide work placement and training opportunities for people who are or have been homeless and desire to change their lives. With guidance and support participants will become independent and help expand the social enterprise.
As the participants gain the necessary skills, knowledge and income they will become self-sustaining. As the programme develops we will introduce new volunteers to be trained by past participants creating a cycle of change.
