76% of Senegalese people between 15 to 44 years of age suffer from Tuberculosis (TB).
76% of Senegalese people between 15 to 44 years old suffer from TB. Dakar alone has 3410 which represent 42%of that TB population whereas the national statistics detect only 60%. Among all this, the co-infection TB-HIV/AIDS is increasing from 6% in 2008, it is now 7% in 2009 meaning 455 cases. Ziguinchor, South of Senegal, neighbouring region with the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and the settlement of Malian people through the biggest weekly West African market must be seriously taken in account
This project aims to detect cases of TB early among members of the population. It will also work toward increased awareness about the disease and, through door to door visits, will attempt to identify lost TB patients who are at risk of developing Multi-drug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis. MDR comes about when treatment is started, but interrupted or not completed.
Improved communication through mobile phones will allow for continued, night and day care of TB patients and the possibility to readily respond to question that the people of the population may ask.
