We provide troubled urban youths with a nonviolent community where hands-on learning and intensive support teaches them the vocational, academic and life skills they need to succeed.
Our school serves youths ages 14-18 with histories of criminal behavior, gang involvement, alcohol and drug use, physical and sexual abuse. They come to us from families and neighborhoods in crisis, poverty, and plagued by violence. Most are homeless, in foster care or in the criminal justice system. They are labeled as “unreachable” and “unteachable”. These youths, who have failed in and been failed by traditional settings, require a multifaceted nonviolent approach to transform their lives.
Our school provides a community with a hands-on approach to learning as it happens in the real world. We combine academics with student-run enterprises, life skills training, basic supports (such as food and clothing) and individualized attention.
Re-engaging juvenile justice and high-risk youths in education process and teaching them to be positive, contributing members of their community and agents of change using nonviolent conflict resolution skills in their schools and communities.
