Tiny Toones is a hip-hop collective and drop in center established for disadvantaged children and young people. We provide a safe place for them to play, learn, make friends and enjoy being young. All of the creative teachers are former Tiny Toones students and from impoverished backgrounds. They engage, inspire and educate the next generation and are perfectly placed to build strong relationships and act as positive role models. By providing them with jobs we help break the cycle of poverty.
Thousands of Cambodians live in abject poverty. 20,000 children are estimated to live and work on the streets. Only one in three stays in school beyond primary level. Tiny Toones' students are aged 5-24 and are particularly vulnerable to drug and substance abuse, sexual and labor exploitation, domestic violence, and gang involvement. A quarter of the children at Tiny Toones report never having attended school yet many are put to work from as young as five years old.
All of the arts teachers at Tiny Toones teachers are former students who now help to inspire and educate the next generation of Tiny Toones. Teachers Diamond, Homie and Voch are uniquely well placed to support vulnerable young people. By providing opportunities for creative expression, free education and support within a safe environment we build confidence and motivation as well as skills. This is underpinned by the children's participation in a community of positive role models & peers.
The dedicated mentors at Tiny Toones have an incredible impact on the kids who come here. They are taught invaluable life skills and all learn the right way to act where some may have made bad choices without proper guidance. It allows the teachers to be employed whilst following their passion for the arts and sharing their stories. These jobs are helping to break the cycle of poverty in Cambodia, changing the lives of hundreds of children and supporting adults who were once disadvantaged youth.
