The purpose of the project is to provide education care and support to 1500 vulnerable children in rural areas of Malawi to give them an opportunity to learn and grow into productive citizens. The project shall provide scholastic materials including writing materials, school uniform, tuition and examination fees and education counseling. Monitoring will be done in schools/homes. This will increase school ennoblement, attendance, performance and completion for the vulnerable and disadvantaged
The illiteracy level in the rural areas of Mangochi is very discouraging. While the national literacy rate is 74%, Mangochi is 47% (Malawi Demographics Profile 2013). there are several factors contributing to this; lack of fees, uniforms and writing materials because of that children are chased away. early and forced marriages - children are married off at the age of 13. Lack of learning and teaching materials. Lack of encouragement by guardians/parents. However, the eagerness to learn is high.
The project is aiming at increasing access to education for the vulnerable children in Malawi by providing school fees, writing materials and school uniforms. In addition pupils and guardians will be mobilized, sensitized and counseled on the importance of education this will motivate the pupils. School dropout will decrease, enrollment will increase, the school attendance will not be disturbed, performance will improve and the percentage of pupils completing secondary school level will increase
The project will educate 1500 children. These children will be knowledgeable, get employment and be able to stand on their own and therefore reducing illiteracy and poverty and improve quality of life and consequently become productive citizens of Malawi.
