The scholarship program provides financial assistance to girls with good academic performance who would otherwise not be able to continue their education due to their poverty.
Access to secondary school is limited for all students; however, the educational challenges of female students are enormous. The Ambassador’s Girls Scholarship Program (AGSP) in Ethiopia has so far been instrumental in supporting a total of 1,424 girls and young women (1,380 secondary school students and 44 university students). At $256 per student, support to this program will make a significant and measurable impact on the lives of female students in Ethiopia.
The AGSP helps female students in Ethiopia by supporting local organizations dedicated to addressing the challenges for girls and by providing tutorial and mentoring services. There is a 5% operational cost for scholarship disbursement.
Encouraging girls to stay in school gives them a chance for an education, an alternative to early marriage and other harmful cultural norms, and a chance to escape poverty. The potential impact of educating girls in Ethiopia is immeasurable.
