Summary
On 8/09/2010, the toll of the epidemic of cholera was already 360 deaths on the 3300 reported patients. More than three million people in the region with less than 30% have access to drinking water
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
A cholera epidemic is currently hitting the Mogode, Kousseri, Makary and Mada health
districts of Far North Region of Cameroon. This is happening barely a few months after the last cholera epidemic occurred (October 2009), still in Far North Region of Cameroon. So far, 3300 cases of cholera and 360 deaths have already been registered. LWDG-Cameroon with the local NGO partners are planning to take preventive measures, with special focus on sensitization, treatment & construction
How will this project solve this problem?
To help stop the spread of the epidemics is by conducting Social mobilization, including sensitization of populations, individual and collective hygiene promotion, and water disinfection as a contribution to the eradication of the epidemic.
Potential Long Term Impact
Once local people are educated, sensitized and understands the meaning of hygiene and sanitation, they will extend the experience to the younger generations and will implement this in secondary and primary and nursery schools, groups, associations NGOs
Project Message
As a hygiene and sanitation educator and from the experience and results I've had from many villages and schools, this is going to help the locals because they've never had such education before
