Please be noted that the project funds raised during 2010 were already reallocated to other organizations by the GlobalGiving team. TEIA would like to apologize to the donors for the way their money was handled. Our work in carrying out reef check surveys since 2009 can be found here - http://teia.tw/zh-hant/seawatch. The richness of endemic marine species around Taiwan is ranked in the top 10% of the world. However, the threatened level of our marine biodiversity is 7th among the global 18 marine hotspots.About half of the reef sites are inastressed conditionsa, with coral coverage between 30 to 50%.The rest are in adegraded conditionsa, with coral coverage lower than 30%.It's urgent for us to educate local people and the public to protect them from further destruction, since they are treasures from the nature.
We conduct the health examination of coral reef in 6 hotspots of Taiwan, providing easy acces for everyone to the scientific evidence of their endangered status in order to inspire local community and the public to protect them with practical actions.
The project will record the health of coral reef in all hotspots of Taiwan continuously,so we can analyze the protection actions we take is appropreate or not.In 10 years,we will educate more than 5,000 people about the right way to treat our ocean.
