This Project will establish a Resource Center at which the Mara Community can acquire trainings and knowledge to help them cope with and adapt to the environment.
The Mara Division has a population of about 120,000, 78% of who live on less than a dollar a day. This high poverty level has been attributed to limited opportunities caused by their semi nomadic lifestyle, unskilled labor leading to low absorption in alternative employment and limited access health facilities. Diseases are a great burden due to lack of access to crucial health information. The Resource Center aims to avail crucial health information and alternative livelihood trainings.
AfriAfya equips Resource Centers with computers, audio visual equipment, books, newsletters on health and development topics. Trainings of Trainers are also conducted on topics relevant to the Community leading to behavior and culture change.
The Project will train 500 trainers of trainers who will gradually effect a culture change that will impact positively on the community's health and livelihood by not only by reducing the incidences of ill health but financial growth as well.
