June Project of the Month: Creating new pathways

What happens when a young person has the talent, determination, and dreams to continue their education—but no school to attend?

For many refugee students living in Tongogara Refugee Camp in Zimbabwe, that's the reality.

Home to more than 17,000 refugees, Tongogara lacks the classroom space to offer education beyond 10th grade. For students who want to continue on the pathway to university and many work opportunities, this sudden halt in education matters.

This June, we're supporting a project that is creating another path for these students.

TWEENS (Together We Can Educationally Empower Non-privileged Students) is a refugee-led education program founded by refugees themselves and supported by Education Matters. What began as peer tutoring has grown into a vibrant learning community where students support one another academically, build leadership skills, and prepare for futures that might otherwise feel out of reach.

This project provides free tutoring, after-school activities, educational resources, mentorship, extracurricular activities, and empowerment workshops designed to help young people stay engaged in school and pursue their goals.

As Rebecca Zeigler Mano, Executive Director of Education Matters, shared:

"At a time when cuts to refugee education funding have devastated education in refugee camps, this donation will go a long way toward providing and enhancing education for more than 300 refugee youth in the camp. It will reignite hope for TWEENS and the youth they engage."

Thank you for investing in young people whose education will create lasting benefits for their families, communities, and future generations.

Until next time,

Yami + Raghuvendra
