MOCHE, Inc. and Nourish International will partner to end open defecation in Ciudad de Dios. Sanitary latrines are essential to the protection of the town’s water system and health. Currently, open defecation and unhygienic latrines contaminate the water and threaten public health. With members of the community, we will raise awareness of better sanitary practices, subsidize the construction of latrines for ¼ of the community and train members in building and maintaining hygienic latrines.
• Health fair, including lessons on public health risks as well as check ups from health care professionals. • Raising awareness and leading latrine building and maintenance trainings. • Working with families to build private latrines.
Total Funding Received to Date: $455
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $1,845
Total Funding Goal: $2,300
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
This project will serve not only the 10 families whose latrines we help build, but also the rest of the town. It intends to assure that a growing community moves away from open defecation and avoids the public health threat through preemptive action.
MOCHE Inc and Nourish’s work in Ciudad de Dios is a “touch of light”.
