Challenge

Average a Vietnamese woman has 2.5 abortions per their lifetime. This is exacerbated for female migrants who are lack of health insurance and low income caused low awareness on contraception, increasing the risk of unwanted pregnancy and a sexually transmitted infection which can lead in turn to reduced economic participation and productivity - 76% of female migrant workers self-medicating. Majority of factory workers are young and unmarried will be benefited from this project.

Solution

The project will increased availability and accessibility of quality SRH information and services amongst young migrant factory workers in Dong Nai provinces of Vietnam through training and quality assurance for 10 private clinics, establishing an peer educator network inside factories, creating an appealing brand and conduct demand generation for services, out-reach mobile activities at factories, pilot a new financing mechanism to encourage low income young migrant workers to access services

Long-Term Impact

The average income of female migrants is $42/month-ill health causes poverty and poverty causes ill health. 15,000 factory workers have greater access to SRH information and services ensuring their social and economic protection. 300 service vouchers will be provided to low income target group. MSIVN will work with the factories to promote and disseminate SRH information, improve the capacity of local service providers to effectively counsel and refer migrant workers to other social services.
