Requests for emergency food are skyrocketing because of rising costs of food and basic necessities and the economic downturn. According to the USDA, Oregon is ranked third in the nation for "very low food security" the term used to describe those households that skipped meals or reduced their food intake to make ends meet. All monies will be used to buy nutrient packed food for the entire Oregon Food Bank Network because no one should be hungry.
If we can purchase and distribute nutrient rich foods ie. peanut butter and tuna throughout the network's 915 agencies, we can increase the number of people who are food secure.
Total Funding Received to Date: $14,085
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $13,415
Total Funding Goal: $27,500
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
People who are hungry can't excel as parents, at work or in school. Emergency food is an income supplement that frees up scarce resources to cover more of life's basic necessities.
"This is the first time I've ever been to a food panty. I just can't keep up. After paying rent and buying gas we can barely cover our other bills, let alone buy food. Prices rise every day."
