The aim of the campaign is to introduce STEM studies opportunities to female high school students and break negative stereotypes on women's skills concerning mathematics, engineering, and technology. Every April 20 Polish technical universities will organize National Open Doors Day - "For Girls Only". 10000 girls participate. This event is accompanied by a broad public campaign on the need to increase women's contribution in STEM fields.
There is not enough women in STEM fields in Poland. Only 37% of students at techncal universities are women, and only 10% in the new technologies generating fields (computer science, communiation technologies etc.). The gender gap is persistent. Science and high-tech industry needs more women to creat innovation and development. Promoting technical and scientific education will encourage more women to build careers in those fields which will be beneficiary for whole society.
This project for last 14 years contribute to solution of this problem. Project whichaim is encouragning girls to choose STEM education and providing reliable, relevant information about proportion of women in science and engineering and about its institutional, cultural and social factors to the general public will help to increase women's participation in those fields.
Problem of underrepresentation of women in STEM fields both in education and at work in decision-making positions will be solved. It will affect whole society bringing equality and wider representation of women in the public sphere. Diversity in high-tech industry and science will be supported, which will contribute to create innovative environment for mental and technological progress of the society.
