The aim of the project is to deliver mobile health services (including maternal) to rural and remote communties by improving the health status of rural residents in 6 villages in Rivers State (Niger Delta Region of Nigeria) so as to increase access to quality healthcare services and build a linage and improve relationship between the community and the Primary health facilty. It also hope to complement the inadequate health care services available at the primary health care unit.
Each year many lives, especially children's are lost in Nigeria. Communicable diseases particularly malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea often linked with malnutrition, caused most of these premature deaths. In poor households, women and children are usually the first to suffer the ill effects of malnutrition or under-nutrition. Most interventions proven to prevent/treat these illnesses are primary health care interventions provided by the households themselves after orientation through outreach.
The project is aimed at improving the accessibilty of primary healthcare services, enhancing access to secondary care and enabling the community to contribute to health care initiatives. building awareness on disease prevention, nutrition and personal hygiene. The project also hope to create a cordial relationship between the community and the primary health care centres.
The project will provide 10,000 persons with integrated primary health care services in 6 villages through the provision of malaria, tuberclosis, hypertension diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment and referral services to primary health care centres. It also hope to provide maternal health services to pregnant/lactating mothers and children under five years old. These services will be commuity driven through the active participation of the primary health care operators and stakeholders.
