Challenge

Each year disasters from prolonged drought and flooding place over 1.5 million people at risk of starvation in Uganda. This project works with 31 schools and their communities in Kabala, Kapchorwa and Mukuno to care for gardens designed to adapt to local climate challenges. The gardens' produce guarantees 1000 school children a heathy meal at school each day and empowers them for life with the skills and knowledge to cultivate food for themselves and their community.

Solution

At the 31 project schools children learn to cultivate food through classroom lessons and hands on experience in the garden. Activites and events with the wider community promote local agriculture models that combat Uganda's widespread hunger.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate and train 1000 school children, improving their nutrition at school, reversing community food shortages and providing valuable life skills to cultivate local vegetables and fruits.
