Summary

Over 75% of girls who enroll in Primary Education are not able to join secondary level education when they are teenagers due to preference of parents to educate boys over girls in Kaliro District. These girls need support to complete 4 years of secondary education, until parents realise they are committed to education.

Challenge

For every 100 girls that join Primary 1 in Kaliro District, only 25 are able to complete the first 7 years of education. Only 15 complete the next 4 years of secondary education and less than 5 join institutions or high school. Only one of these girls will reach University! The Education Sponsorship Project will enable more girls stay in school and complete secondary education.

Solution

The project will provide the needed funds for secondary school education, the level that many parents are hesitant to pay fees for the teenage girls.

Long-Term Impact

More parents will realise the potential of girls in higher education and encourage their own children to stay in school and pay their school fees
