Summary
Providing education, culture and work opportunities to socially re-integrate low income youth and "street children" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
This project assists "street children" at-risk and impoverished youth living in very difficult conditions. In the last 17 years we have successfully reintegrated 700 children into society. We have conducted 48 courses. We currently serve youth with 4 main program courses: Hostelry; With Future & Without Fear (gardening); Be an Academic Citizen (university preparatory course); Be a Digital Citizen (computer) and Too Much (jewelry), currently serving 122 youth directly and 366 indirectly.
How will this project solve this problem?
The methodology is aimed to develop skills in different areas included in a general program called Education & Work.
Potential Long Term Impact
To implement a computer training course to for 45 digitally excluded people and another preparatory course to help 35 more youth in order to access the public universities in Rio de Janeiro.
Project Message
We saw that the street children and low income community youth did not have access to public and cultural spaces. This project re-integrates them providing education, culture and work opportunities.
