This project will take action to advance the opportunities and rights of women in Baalbek-Hermel, a rural region in Lebanon, and ensure their ability to participate and be heard.
UNDP indicates that over 65 percent of households in the Baalbek-Hermel region fall under the poverty line. More than 50 percent of women in this region are housewives with no source of independent income, and as a result have been marginalized from the economic and social decision-making process. Women of this region have few formalized opportunities to learn how to succeed in running their own small businesses, and will need tools to affirm a position and voice in the household and society.
This project aims to provide skills for income generation among women of Baalbek. Business development and financial management tools will be provided through IT and Micro-enterprise management courses empowering women to control their lives.
The project will provide specialized training to 80 women in the rural and underprivileged Baalbek-Hermel area, allowing them to manage small enterprises, to generate their own incomes, and to contribute in the development of their society.
