Colombia is one of the most unequal countries in Latin America. MAKAIA will train 100 women, youth, and unemployed from low-income communities in coding and programming to acquire the right skills to get jobs, build a career path, or start their own businesses. The opportunities in the technology sector will continue to grow and they need to be accessible to all.
195 million jobs will be lost in the world (ILO), but 135 million will be created thanks to the 4th Industrial Revolution (WEF). Colombia is not the exception to this trend, but only a few, already educated would have access to these opportunities. Women, youth, and people with disabilities, from vulnerable communities, are mostly affected because they don't have access to adequate education, that fosters the re-skilling and up-skilling required in IT Sector.
We will train 100 women, youth, and those recently unemployed, from low-economic levels, in basic IT and programming technologies (front and back-end) and 21st-century skills, such as communication, creativity, and collaboration. We will do this with an intensive 9-week, mentor-based training, and inspirational talks. Since technology will be the driver of employment, they will also be supported in finding jobs that will allow them to improve their social and economic development.
If we give 100 women, youth, and those recently unemployed the right technology skills, they will have better educational and employment opportunities and will become change agents in their communities. By aligning the training with the technology needs of the country and driven by market opportunities, many excluded people will have the opportunities to transform their lives and the ones of their communities. They will be able to find high-paid jobs that can promote social mobility.
