Summary
The MWP works to carry out programs with point of use (POU) water treatments and hand-washing basins, spring catchments, shallow well rehabilitation, borehole construction and micro-loans.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The MWP addresses lack of access to safe and adequate drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in Kenya through its work with partner organizations present within the country. By helping communities attain access to safe drinking water, the MWP helps to lessen the burden of diarrheal diseases within Kenya, especially among children. By incorporating integrated water resource management activities the MWP aids in improved irrigation drought mitigation, and watershed management.
How will this project solve this problem?
Working in Kisumu & Arid & Semi Arid land areas, activities of the MWP include point-of-use water treatment with hygiene education & sanitation promotion, provision of water supply, drip irrigation, and integrated water resouce management.
Potential Long Term Impact
The coordination of MWP activities will serve to improve access to water and sanitation and improve hygiene along with integrating water resource management activities benefitting communities and school children totaling some 403,509 beneficiaries.
