Summary
The project will improve knowledge and skills for integrating infant and child feeding practices among mothers of children under six months and growth monitoring of children under 5 years in Amuru.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Amuru District the percentage of children under 5 years suffering from moderate and severe stunting is very high at 45% and from wasting at 20% compared to the national average of 6% (Uganda Demographic and Health Survey, 2006).The incidence of HIV/AIDS in Amuru district is among the highest at 13% (Amuru DDP – 2008/9-2010/11) , over 50% of children born to HIV positive mothers acquire HIV.This is made worse with difficulty in accessing nutritious food,, high malaria transmission, and poverty
How will this project solve this problem?
This project will train Village health teams,Family support group in infant feeding,growth monitoring
The project will support children care givers to establish poultry units
We shall distribute therapeutic milk for therapeutic feeding centers
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will train 120 Village health teams and family support group,support the mothers in establishment of poultry units, provide therapeutic milk for therapeutic feeding centre , plumpynuts and vitamin A supplements for out-patient treatment

As we resettle back into our communities we lack access to nutritious food, malaria control facilities, access to health services through this project we have got knowledge on infant feeding practices
