When CCA’s Music Rx therapists first met 15-year-old Micah, he had been in and out of the hospitals for the treatment of his lung disease for most of his life. He was tired of spending long hours in his hospital bed and needed something to help him pass the time. Because of his disease, he could no longer play sports or do the things other boys his age could.
When the Music Rx team began visiting Micah, they brought in a ton of musical instruments and he quickly became fixated on the guitar. While in the hospital, Micah played constantly and soon, he was teaching songs to the music therapists. “I fell in love with the guitar. It was so nice to have something in my life that was just for me and was so fun…I could play all day, every day.”
Recently, CCA and a generous 105.1 the BUZZ listener send Micah to see a Nickelback rock concert. His mom was thrilled he was healthy enough to go. “We could never have afforded to send him to an event like that. He needs the chance to listen to other musicians and plus it’s just plain fun. Something he doesn’t get enough of in his life.”
