Evode is one of MindLeaps' more quiet and thoughtful students. With his serious demeanor, one would be surprised by his artistic passion in the dance studio. Just as he comes alive when he is dancing, Evode has changed immensely since attending MindLeaps programs. He is a dedicated English, dance, and IT student and daily demonstrates his desire to create a better future for himself. Evode is in need of a vocational training school scholarship to help him leap forward into a better future.
Evode went to the streets as a young child after his father was taken to prison. His single mother struggles to provide for him and his siblings. Sometimes he walks the hour long journey from our center to visit home, but for the most part he sleeps on the streets - finding it easier to get food there. Having dropped out of school in fourth grade due to a lack of money, this scholarship is his only chance to gain a basic education so he can create a better future for himself and his family.
Evode needs further education before he can fully leap forward in life. At vocational training school he will choose a focus ranging from construction to ICT and work with a tutor who will help him catch up to the level of his peers. He will also be given a place to sleep and eat every day - a huge step towards fully exiting life on the streets. When he finishes he will get a certificate of education, which will open up many job opportunities that he could not have had otherwise.
By sending Evode to school, you are helping a young man leave the streets and re-integrate into society by entering the formal academic and working world. This will not only impact his life, but impact the life of his family, particularly his younger siblings. Evode's success will also be an inspiration to other street children - showing them that one's past doesn't have to define his/her future.
