By Barbara Rosasco | Recap on Summer Arts Camp 2015.
Despite funding challenges, we were able to offer a scaled down Summer Arts Camp to neighborhood children. We raised total funds for this project of $ 2795 vs the projected budget needs of $ 8255 for the 8 week camp .
Using available funds, we were able to host approximately 60 local campers from the surrounding neighborhood but we were not able to host the children from the Phnom Penh Municipal Orphanage or children from our AIDS Patient Family Support program due to lack of funds for transportation . Transportation for local " tuk tuks" is approximately for these children is typically 35 % to 50% of the total budget for the camp. When these funds are not available, it means that the children cannot be invited to attend. Our Summer Arts Camp 2014 had experienced a deficit which was never recovered . Consequently, we had to strictly allocate funds available for the 2015 camp. It is our hope that our 2016 camp may be restored to full funding .
Despite our scaled down Camp, daily campers were able to enjoy fun filled days of acivities learning about Cambodia's rich cultural heritage of art, music and dance as well as the additional benefits of self discipline and a sense of pride of accomplishment. This year, our end of Camp field trip to the water park was cancelled due lack of funding, but we were still able to have our end of Camp party for our Campers.
A recap of our budget vs actual is attached for your review.
We deeply appreciate the support that enabled us to host the neighborhood children who without the Summer Arts Camp would be left unsupervised at home or taken to to fill their school vacation staying with their parents who work at local market stalls and as food vendors .
Thank you again for your support.
