The project will support 5 aspiring vulnerable youth from Kibera to obtain a college education - an extremely rare opportunity for youth here where the population lives on less than $2 per day and just half of school-age youth reach secondary school. With your support, these 5 first-year students (3 girls, 2 boys) will be supported to attend colleges in Kenya.
Elizabeth, Maureen, Venesa, Levox and Dennis never thought attending college was even a remote possibility. All youth have been supported to attend high school through St. Vincent's scholarship program. Having completed secondary school in November 2014, these students are ready to move on to the next level, but costs to attend college are far out of reach for households in Kibera. Through scholarships, this project will enable these students to pursue an almost unheard of dream.
The project will provide 5 youth with funding to cover tuition and other school costs, for example textbooks and registration fees, for their first year of college. All 5 youth will be enrolled in an institution in Kenya (students have recently completed secondary education and are awaiting admissions results from colleges around the country). These promising youth have been selected by St. Vincent's based on their need, their dedication to the community and their drive to achieve their goals.
This microproject will enable these 5 students to pursue their education dreams and pave their own way out of poverty. Elizabeth, Maureen, Venesa, Levox and Dennis all come from extremely difficult backgrounds, have overcome significant odds by completing high school and now look forward to bigger and better things!. Through pursuit of a college education, these students will have greater opportunities to find viable employment and care for themselves and their families in the future.
