Her father, a baker, earns just $200 a month and cannot afford his family's daily expenses, much less Hamida's school fees. In the past, a benefactor has paid Hamida's tuition, but has stepped back due to lack of funds. Hamida is just 36 credits away from graduating and cannot proceed without outside support to continue her education.
As a poor refugee in Pakistan, Hamida began school at age 6 and continued at an AAE school once she returned to Afghanistan. Few refugees make it to university level studies.
