Preschool Graduation Report- Human and Hope Association

By Salin Loeum | Education Manager

“Tola came with his mother to enroll in our preschool class, while we were recruiting our new preschool class for 2015-2016. A shy and like crying boy, who was five-year old and came from a very poor family.  At first, he was very naughty and hot-tempered and he rarely play with others. However, after joining with us for nearly one year, he remarkably grew into confident, sociable, and very eager to learn.

Tola’s mother once said, “My son has learned many hours at home. When he got sick, he didn’t want to miss the class until I strongly encouraged him. Moreover, his behavior has changed a lot as he respects me, his father, and his classmates.”

This year we have 10 students, which is equal in number of boys and girls. They are all at the age of five and come from poor families. These children are going to join our preschool program for one year. When they are six years old, they will be enrolled at public school for grade one and will be joined our Khmer and English class.

According to the curriculum: Monday – Thursday, they study Khmer alphabet, do coloring, do arts and crafts, play with allocated toys, and do some fun activities in our study area for 30 minutes. On Friday, they learn living values, watch movie, and pick up trash inside HHA.

Every day, they always come to class early and practice writing Khmer alphabet with their classmates. Moreover, they are so helpful as they always help me to clean and tidy up the class. They have participated well in any lessons and activities. A part from this, we encourage them to brush their teeth every morning because we think it’s a good habit to maintain their teeth.

As a result for almost one year studied with me, they have improved dramatically as following:

Hygiene: it becomes their habit that they wash their hands, brush their teeth and wear their shoes to school.

Living Values: they don’t throw rubbish on the ground and they learn many good topics such as how to drink good water, how to keep environment clean, treating people with respect, no stealing things, eating good food ect.

Art and Craft: they do coloring, making pictures, making the craft by using recycle.

Languages: They know Khmer alphabet, consonant and vowel, Khmer songs and basic calculation. They also can count English alphabet, numbers and basic greeting.

They will be graduated at the end of October this year and will be enrolled grade one in public school in November.  Our team has started recruiting new students.

Lastly, I am so excited to see their willingness to learn with the great result they have done. That feeling tells me that I have to improve my teaching to respond to their willingness.

I would like to express my profound thank to supporters who enable us to run this class. Your supports will make a difference to our community. Please continue your support, so we can continue our work to empower our children.
