At the start of the year our corps members receive training to ensure they enter schools equipped with the skills needed to tutor, run afterschool programs and manage behaviors. Each corps member, like Marcus, has now gone through over 300 hours of professional training by City Year staff, education leaders, teachers and external experts.
Over 2500 corps members are now placed in their school and have just started their after school programs. Last year City Year corps members served 3,132 students with a total of 22,303 hours for afterschool tutoring programs - this year we will exceed that goal, thanks to many generous donations.
To quote Dr. Carol R. Johnson, the Superintendent of Boston Public Schools: "As near-peer role models, City Year Boston corps members have demonstrated that they can dramatically affect students’ academic performance, improve
attendance and behavior, energize the school environment and engage families in student activities".
Thank you for your donation to City Year and helping us keep students in school and on track to graduate.
