Exploring climate change and the global environment are urgent subjects that offer impactful arenas for learning about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This microproject will offer a student the opportunity to learn about these issues with climate kits that integrate various STEM subject areas by providing funding for kits to a small group of students in an under-resourced classroom.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Despite the success of programs that integrate hands-on learning in STEM, there are limited to no resources to distribute project kits to classrooms. In the resource-strapped classrooms in rural and urban schools that serve primarily minority and underrepresented students, this is of particular concern.
How will this project solve this problem?
By providing science kits to under-resourced classrooms, this microproject will give a student the chance to engage in innovative sustainability curriculum, learning about STEM subjects in a way that activites their mind and imagination.
Potential Long Term Impact
Project-based learning will support the student's successful transition to high school and college, provide content knowledge and critical thinking necessary to tackle 21st century problems, and help involve parents and families in the academic lives of their students.
