Vanessa is six, and her life has changed for the better since her arrival to the orphanage. Today, she is healthy, friendly, and loves school. A book can shape Vanessa's life. It can nurture her imagination and encourage her dreams for a better future. Like Vanessa, there are other 48 girls in the orphanage, and not one has ever owned a book. Help us get each girl a book and potentially create a library in the orphanage. These books can reinforce their education and let their imagination fly.
Our partner, Little Sisters of Saint Theresa, is currently supporting 49 girls in their orphanage. These girls come from very poor and illiterate backgrounds. Other than school textbooks, the girls have never held a book of their own. This project aims to improve literacy in Haiti, by strengthening the reading skills and reinforcing the education these girls are receiving in school.
The microproject aims to provide a book to each girl in the orphanage, as well as to create a small shared library. A book seems like a small gift, but it is not about the book itself but about what it represents. A book is an opportunity to dream. By giving each girl a book, you are expanding the limits of her imagination. You are giving her the opportunity to enjoy and take care of their own book, as well as to share it with those around.
This project is directed to the 49 girls in the orphanage Little Sisters of Saint Theresa. These books will have a spillover in the girls' education. By strengthening their skills and motivating their dreams and imagination, the books can drive them to aspire for a better future. In the long term, more educated parents have healthier children with greater opportunities.
